FAQs

What happens in a Marlins lesson?

Learning the freestyle stroke excites a lot of young swimmers – and this swimming class is where they begin to master this stroke. Progressing to our Marlins level is an exciting time for your child. To compliment the freestyle (torpedo) kick learned in the Torpedoes class, our Marlins swimming lessons teach the arm stroking part of freestyle; we call this a “torpedo with arms”.

Performing a “torpedo with arms” requires swimmers to concentrate on their arms and legs at the same time – which can be tricky! This is exactly why the stroke is broken up into stages to make sure swimmers have the right foundations before a new skill is introduced. Our Marlins swimming classes are about getting a beautiful arm stroke technique before we introduce breathing technique in the Dolphins classes.

Marlins swimming lessons also teach backstroke arm stroking. Both the “torpedo with arm” and “backstroke arm stroking” are basic skills, key in developing future swimming abilities.

What happens when a swimmer graduates Marlins?

Once your child can demonstrate these skills to the required standard, they will graduate to the Dolphins level of our Learn to Swim - 400 Gold program.
